High Key Baby

Here’s my Sammie at 3 months or so. I took these with my high key studio set up.

Camera Equipment and Settings:

Canon 20D
Canon 50 mm lens
Set at 160 and 5.6

Lighting:

One alien bee B800 w/ softbox(camera right) - set to approx. 1/16th power
One alien bee B800 w/ umbrella (camera left) set to approx. 1/16th power
One alien bee B800 set to 1/8 power - pointed at background only

Post-Processing using Photoshop
Kodak Digital Gem Airbrush for skin softening
Multiple Choice eye pop action where needed
Kevin Kubota’s “warm black and white with snap” action on selected images

Props and Background

White seamless paper for background
Baby lying on blanket with pillow stuffed underneath for support.
Good for babies who cannot sit up but can hold up their head.

Childhood Garden

I was WAY pregnant with Sammie when I did this session with my Katie (then 3 years old). She’s 6 and a half now. I walked (waddled) out into the field behind our house to do these, and got tired very fast. Katie had fun picking “flowers” (mostly weeds) and really had no interest in posing for me. You’ll notice I was in my “color pop” phase here. Here’s the technical info:

Photo Equipment:
Canon 20D with 50 mm 1:1.8 lens

Camera settings:
Aperture priority setting (2.2 - 2.5)
Automatically detected shutter speeds

Lighting settings:
Outdoors - full sun / shady areas

Props:
Pettiskirt ordered from ebay

Multiple Choice eye pop / teeth whitening action when needed

Brand New

Here is my sweet Sammie at just a few days old. Hard to believe that she is already 2 and a half. The time has flown. I took these on the living room floor using a fuzzy white rug I picked up at Wal Mart. She decided that she was tired and promptly went to sleep. I liked the black and white on these but posted one color as well. Here’s the technical info:

Camera:

Canon 20D
160 and 2.8
50 mm lens

Lighting:

One alien bee b800 with large softbox set at 1/32 power (camera right)
Large reflector for fill light (camera left)

Post-Processing using Photoshop
Kodak Digital Gem Airbrush for skin softening
Multiple Choice eye pop action
Kevin Kubota’s warm black and white w/ snap for black and white conversions

Other details:

Baby was on the floor. Light stand was at lowest level and softbox was pointing
downward toward the baby.

Welcome (Back) To Shuttermom Studio!

Hi There! I’m happy to have Shuttermomstudio back up and running. This was a project that I began shortly after the birth of my second daughter, kept up for a few months, and then set aside for the past two years!

Now, Shuttermomstudio is back with a brand new look and new photos coming soon. I’m re-posting the ones I had on the site early on as well.

I’ll be sharing my images on Shuttermomstudio, as well as telling you how I captured them.
